When we got to our next stop, Crest, we found the temperature was a downright chilly 21 degrees centigrade! Of course this temperature is much more comfortable for exploring. Before telling you a little about Crest I have to mention our (35 mile) drive from Nyons. You are used to me saying how lovely the scenery is - this was one of the best trips ever. Take a look at the photos below, a twisty route through a gorge, easy enough to drive along but with some great views.

Crest is yet another pleasant town, quite busy. We soon found our way to the tourist office to equip ourselves with a map. Not being very good tourists we basically just wandered around the place to see what we stumbled upon.

We noticed a (very) long run of steps which seemed to lead to the tower on the hill. They were going in the right direction of course but first of all we got to a chapel where there was an art exhibition on. These were all abstract pictures done by the young lady who showed us in (Agnes), not really my cup of tea I'm afraid. They were all for sale with prices from about 175 euros to 450 euros.

Onwards and upwards, more steps and slopes leading to the tower, Crest's main landmark.  It turns out that the tower has had various functions over the centuries - fortress, prison etc. It was only 6 euros to get in but Lynda was not interested in looking round and I didn't fancy exploring on my own so we had an ice cream before starting our descent.

Coffees at a pavement cafe, mine was fine but Lynda's  cappuccino  was too strong for her, she drank it but pulled a face as she did so!

After lunch back at the van we thought we would stretch our legs again, walking in the other direction along the river this time.

According to the aires book there is a charge of 3.75 for this aire. We checked with the lady in the tourist office who confirmed that its free to stay but 5 euros for 10 minutes water and an hours electricity from the bourne - no thanks.

A few photos taken en route first of all:

We met a lorry on a bend, slid on the gravel surface
for a few seconds. I had to back up to let him pass

Only 4 metres headroom

Now, Crest town....

Several very dark, narrow
passageways

Aire at Crest

Bourne, for anyone interested....

Lovely soft organ music being played in church, suddenly
got very loud - I thought Vincent Price had taken over

Lots of steps up to the tower.
We walked all the way up but
settled for an ice cream rather
than pay the admission charge.

Flowers all over town, wonder who pays for them all to
be watered and weeded

Lovely to live in a place called Die! Still not as bad as
another one we saw - Condom!

    1. Hello

Yes, of course Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco were all on the list of places to visit. So was south west France. I'll tell you why we didn't get there this time when I see you.....

  2. DIE: This word is often used in German - it means THE.......so you will come across it often when learning German.
