Only about a 30 mile drive to the lovely town of Annecy. We had heard this place was beautiful and it certainly didn't disappoint. Before setting out to have a look round we had to think about what we were going to do about parking. The aire is very crowded and we a parked partially blocking the entrance but we seem to have got away with it so far.
After walking into town, about 10 minutes away, we were pleased to see there was a market being held. Very crowded it was too and great fun to look around. Quite early on there were people sititng at the pavement cafes watching the world go by. We bought some cheeses, olives, nuts and apple juice in the market. The lake is very beautiful and surrounded by mountains and hills. Its quite large but even so seemed crowded with hundreds of small boats. There are also some much larger boats offering cruises round the lake.
It doesn't take much sightseeing to wear us out so we were soon walking back to the van where we sat outside in the sunshine (again) and drank some wine / beer. Its all very tiring this life so we thought we would have a bit of a rest. I dozed off no problem but was awoken by Lynda saying 'the police are here'!
No, we were not in trouble. They seemed to be here to check up on who has overstayed their welcome at the aire and were taking up parking spaces they shouldn't have, you are only allowed to stay for 1 night. The officers walked round taking photos of vans and writing down details, they were here for quite a while but didn't bother us.
All through the day there have been motorhomes arriving in the hope of getting a parking space on this aire but having to go away disappointed because there is nowhere they can squeeze in, even the French are giving up.
Once suitably rested we had anothe walk into town, doing our bit to keep the ice cream industry going as we did so. Annecy is a very photogenic sort of place. Loads of people having fun on the lake or just lying on the grass sunbathing. Annecy is very geared up for bikes and there are cylce lanes alongside the lake, you have to be very careful as they really speed along.
On our way back to the aire we spotted a small bar attached to the local sailing club. This turned out to be a little gem, we sat in the shade on their patio and had a refreshing beer / coke. A drink and a great view all for only 4 euros altogether - good value.
Thats Annecy's main claim to fame in the background - a 12th century prison in the middle of the river
A genuine British phone box - they sent it over pre vandalised to give it that authentic touch
The crowded aire at Annecy - thats us blocking the exit
Nice place for a drink, the sailing club by the lake at Annecy. Thats my beer in the foreground.
Glad you enjoyed Annecy. The photos are beautiful and bring back some nice memories of our trips to Annecy.
