5th September

As everyone knows its so easy to travel between countries within  the EU. The only time there is any problem is entering the UK, we are all familiar with those long queues at Stansted Airport where they seem to have to check so carefully before allowing us into our own country.

The only indication that we had travelled from Germany into Luxembourg was the sudden increase in the number of filling stations and some slightly different road signs. There are at least half a dozen filling stations in a row on the main road we used. This is because Luxembourg has about the cheapest diesel prices in Europe and no doubt its easy for nearby Germans to hop across the border to fill up.

How cheap is cheap? Well, the best Euro price we have seen so far is about 132 cents per litre, thats about £1.10 per litre, pretty good price.

We were aiming for Camping Bon Accueil, an 'ACSI' site on the outskirts of Luxembourg city. They only charge 12 euros per night here including electricity, water and wifi which is pretty good.

We were lucky to find a vacant pitch here because not long after we arrived they put up 'site full' signs at the end of the road. Booking in was very easy, a charming and polite lady in reception did all the paperwork and went  to a lot of trouble to point out all the ways we could get into the city. In fact I had stopped listening towards the end and forgot how we were supposed to get to our allotted pitch.

While I was booking in Lynda was talking to 'Kenny' one of the several Brits here. He told her we would probably bump into someone nicknamed 'the commandant' - a Brit who apparently comes here quite a lot and has taken it upon  himself to help get people organised.

We did indeed meet the commandant who appeared from nowhere when we had taken a wrong turning and asked which pitch we were heading for, giving us directions as necessary.

We actually have a lovely pitch, quite large area of grass surrounded by a low hedge. Water and electricity laid on of course.

Really quiet night so we slept well. Its certainly getting colder at night now. We are very cosy, we should be with 2 quilts and a blanket, but we noticed a tiny amount of condensation on the ceiling above the bed this morning - a sure sign that the temperature has dipped during the night.

Once we had breakfasted we went off to get the bus into the city, using the timetables provided at reception. While waiting at the bus stop we got chatting to a very nice Canadian couple Carey and Rosalie, who are touring round Europe for 6 weeks and are staying on the same site as us.

Bus trip costs only 1.50 per person each way and takes just 15 minutes or so. Once let loose in Luxembourg city centre we followed our usual method for exploring - spend ages following guide books so that we see every point of interest, making copious notes along the way. Either that or we just got a map and wandered round, having a quick look at any sites we stumbled upon. I'll  leave you to decide what actually happened.

Feeling a bit peckish after walking round I went mad and said we could splash out on a McDonalds for lunch. The outlet we used was right in the heart of the city and next door to loads of other eateries so its not surprising it was not a total bargain, still not expensive at 13.50 euros for lunch for 2 though.

When we had seen enough we headed back to the bus stop for our trip back to the site. We have spent the afternoon sitting outside in the sunshine. Its been quite hot today, blue skies and about 27 degrees c which is ideal for us.

We loaned Carey and Rosalie our 'all the aires France' book and gave our 'expert' advice on aires in France. If you are reading this C & R do let us know how you got on!
