Satnav was promising us a 77 mile drive today so ge got away from Gennetiel quite early, after getting our baguette and pain au raisan from the Spar shop.
Initial opinion of the aire at Gorron was 'nothing special', its right by the side of quite a busy road but in its favour there are free services - only one other van here (a £120,000 Burstner) so we could both make full use of the free unmetered electricity on offer. I took Lucy for a walk then we sat in the van and had our traditional bread and cheese for lunch.
This afternoon we thought we would walk up the road to the village itself. There is a river very near the aire and local people have certainly done their best to make the area look nice, plenty of flowers etc.
We were very pleased with the town actually. Not a tourist centre but a thriving French town with a certain buzz to it. There are several roads each lined with a variety of shops and cafes. There are quite a lot of banks and estate agents, I don't know if that counts as a good thing or not. It was noticeable that at least two of the estate agents had 'English spoken' signage so this must be a popular area for Brits looking to buy inexpensive property in France.
As the aire is free we like to spend a little money locally to help pay them back for providing this service. We bought several items in the small supermarket in the centre of town then strolled back to the van. Another French van here now and the two Frenchmen are over at the service point messing about with adaptors so that they can both use the same power outlet, we are using the other one provided and Lynda is not about to share with anyone!
3rd July
As always on this trip, another quiet night. We went into town again to spend yet more money on a day old newspaper for Lynda and buy something for lunch. Not too far to go today so no particular rush to get away. Weather is pretty naff though, it has been raining most of the night by the look of the puddles and there is still drizzle in the air.
