18th July 2019 - Eccles, And I'm Not Talking About The Goon Show!

17th July.

Same as yesterday we have a bit of decent weather for a change. In fact Lynda reckons yesterday was the first sunny day for 11 days.

Once again we are spending a couple of hours on the beach. I am not a beach fan but its certainly a very nice spot and hardly anyone there.

You won't see me paddling in the sea often.

Lynda took a short break from sunbathing to go for a paddle.

18th July.

Drizzle and grey skies today so we thought maybe a walk was called for. We walked along the coast road to the next town to Sea Palling - Eccles on Sea. According to Lynda's phone its 3.9 kilometres and should take us 50 minutes to walk

Eccles was a real disappointment actually. Its a reasonable sized place but, apart from the horrible weather, there is nothing of any interest there. Quite a few low-grade houses but the roads are mostly unmade and, most importantly, there was nowhere to get a coffee after our walk. No shop, pub or church either.

We didn't hang about and walked back along the beach, passing on our way a Little Tern reserve / colony. I spoke briefly to an RSPB warden who was busy takiing photos of the fenced in colony. Apparently these birds fly all the way from Africa to Eccles or Winterton beach.

It took us about 90 minutes to walk back to the van, we were glad to have a rest and a coffee

Nicely restored gypsy caravan as we approached Eccles on Sea.

Eccles beach, such as it is.

Sign by Little Tern reserve. There are some pretty stupid people about.

Fenced off area of beach reserved for Little Terns.

Trudging back to Sea Palling and 'civilisation'.
