8th February 2020 - Denia Castle

On our trips to Denia we have sometimes noticed the castle perched above the town.

We did a bit or research of course and it seems the place is open today and, just as importantly, its only €5 in total.to get in, €3 for Lynda and only €2 for me. If you are a local it is free admission.

We soon found our way to the castle entrance but first we walked through the tunnel that runs right under the castle. Before all this Lynda just had to get her Daily Mail, I also managed to get a Valentine card to save me any aggro.

The castle itself is well signposted but, typical of these things, they stop giving directions before you actually get to the place.

I suppose the best thing about Denia Castle is the magnificent views you get from the top. As mentioned on these pages before, there is not too much concern shown for 'elf and safety - walls are pretty low and there is not much in the way of railings keeping you from plummeting to a painful death.

Once we had had quite a good old explore we thought a coffee in their cafe was deseved. The Spanish lady explained that the coffee machine was out of action so we settled for a beer and coke.

Sign by the tunnel entrance, we assume its saying the tunnel can
be used as a shelter.

We could see the other end of the tunnel and plenty of people walking through.

We thought it was going to be so easy to follow the signs. This was about the last one we saw.

Just about to start exploring the castle.

We soon found our way to the top, superb views.

A zoomed in view of the car park in the centre of town.
Obviously the unofficial aire, quite a few vans parked up.

This is supposed to be a photo of some of the many cats around the place.

Refreshments in the small cafe.

Couple of 'Irish' pubs near the castle. Paddy O'Connell? I don't think so!

We were walking back through town when a Spanish chap asked me where the castle is, its not only me thats noticed the lack of direction signs it seems.

On our way to the castle we walked past the entrance to Denia market - we didn't even know there was such a thing. We had plenty of time so we spent a few minutes looking round, very impressive.

One of the slight problems with the bus service we use is that they don't run very often. We intended to get the 13.15 bus back to our site. We still had an hour or so to kill so we found a Spanish supermarket in town {Consum} and bought a few bits and pieces. Made a change from shopping at Lidl.

We were still at the bus stop a bit too early though.

We visited Denia market, really good place to shop.
